Analysis of multispectral images of the colon to reveal histological changes characteristic of cancer

چکیده
Colon cancer alters the macroarchitecture of the colon tissue. Common changes include the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) and the distortion of the tissue collagen matrix. Such changes affect the colon colouration. This paper presents the principles of a novel image analysis method capable of extracting parameters depicting histological quantities of the colon from its multispectral images. The method is based on a computational, physics-based model of light interaction with tissue. The colon structure is represented by three layers: mucosa, submucosa and muscle layer, and parametrised by the concentration of blood haemoglobins; the size and density of collagen fibres; and the thickness of the layers. Using the entire histologically plausible ranges for these parameters, a cross-reference is created computationally between the histological quantities and the spectra which can be obtained at each point of a multispectral image set. In a pilot study the method was applied to two excised colon samples comprising normal tissue and adenocarcinomas. The histological parameters extracted from the cancerous regions showed the changes characteristic of the colon cancers, namely the increase in the blood volume fraction, decrease in the collagen density and increase in the thickness of the mucosal layer.

An extended feature set for blind image steganalysis in contourlet domain
The aim of image steganalysis is to detect the presence of hidden messages in stego images. We propose a blind image steganalysis method in Contourlet domain and then show that the embedding process changes statistics of Contourlet coefficients. The suspicious image is transformed into Contourlet space, and then the statistics of Contourlet subbands coefficients are extracted as features. We us...
متن کاملCombining of Magnitude and Direction of Change Indices to Unsupervised Change Detection in Multitemporal Multispectral Remote Sensing Images
In remote sensing, image-based change detection techniques, analyze two images acquired over the same area at different times t1 and t2 to identify the changes occurred on the Earth's surface. Change detection approaches are mainly categorized as supervised and unsupervised. Generating the change index is a key step for change detection in multi-temporal remote sensing images. Unsupervised chan...
متن کاملInvestigating the Relationship between Red Blood Cell Distribution Width and Early Detection of Colorectal Cancer and Colonic Polyps
Background: Colorectal cancer is a common cancer and has a high rate of mortality and morbidity. This can be reduced by screening tests. Some of the studies have recently referred to Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW) as a marker for early detection of various cancers. The aim of this study was to investigate the RDW and early detection of colorectal cancer and polyp. M...
متن کاملFusion of Panchromatic and Multispectral Images Using Non Subsampled Contourlet Transform and FFT Based Spectral Histogram (RESEARCH NOTE)
Image fusion is a method for obtaining a highly informative image by merging the relative information of an object obtained from two or more image sources of the same scene. The satellite cameras give a single band panchromatic (PAN) image with high spatial information and multispectral (MS) image with more spectral information. The problem exists today is either PAN or MS image is available fr...

The Cancer is one of the world’s most devastating diseases. Doxorubicin (DOX) is an effective chemotherapeutic drug; however, its toxicity is a significant limitation in therapy. Due to the severe side effects of chemotherapy drugs, scientists have tried to load these drugs in nanocomposites. This paper describes a facile and low cost approach for preparation polymeric biodegradable nanohybrid ...
